How to Make a No Sew Tutu

Don’t think you can make a tutu because you don’t know how to sew? Don’t worry. We have a solution for you, the No Sew Tutu. You can create no sew tutus with just THREE materials. It really will be the easiest, most impressive thing you’ve ever made with your hands.

What You Need for the No Sew Tutu

You will need:

  • Tulle
  • Ribbon
  • Scissors

How to Make It

We love how you can make this tutu with just tulle and ribbon. The first thing you need to do is cut a long strip of ribbon.

We like to use ribbon that’s an inch wide, but you can use any width you would like to use. Make the ribbon long enough to wrap it around the wearer’s waist. You should have enough to tie it where you need to as well.

When you have the ribbon, you’re going to want to cut some tulle. The length of tulle you cut depends on how long you want the skirt to be on the wearer. You can measure from the person’s waist down to where you want it to hang and then double it.

Why do you want to double it?

When you tie the tulle to the ribbon, you will be folding each strip in half. That’s what gives you the puffy look of the tutu.

Cut as many strips as you need to fill the ribbon. Don’t worry if you don’t cut enough of them at first. You can always cut some more.

Start putting your tulle on the ribbon by taking one strip, folding it in half and then tying a slipknot on the ribbon. Make sure it is tied on tightly, so it won’t come out while the person wearing it is walking.

Tie the tulle on the ribbon until there is no space left. When you’re at the end, you’re all set.

All you have to do is pick it up, put it around the person wearing it, and tie it. DONE!

Suggestions for the Tulle

Be creative with your tutu. Wholesale Girls has a huge selection of high quality tulle to choose from for your tutus. You can choose one or more colors for the skirt, which is what many people do. Since our prices are so low, they don’t mind buying more than they need, or buying a few different colors.

Some of our customers have been so impressed with the tutus they have made that they have made more of them to sell or give to family and friends. Head over to our tulle section to see all of the wonderful colors we have for you.

Don’t forget – shipping is on us for orders $50+.

BONUS TIPS:

Some of our customers have made tutus that go along with fashion trends by making the back of the tutu longer than the front of it. All you have to do is cut longer strips for the back and place those at the edges of the ribbon since that’s where you are going to tie it. If you want to make sure those longer pieces are going to end up in the back, just place it around the person’s waist and then mark the ribbon where you need the longer strips.

Add embellishments on the tulle. For example, you can add sequins, studs, feathers, or anything else you think would look good. Let your imagination run free!

Now that you know how easy making a no sew tutu is, go ahead and have fun with our tulle. Quality and low prices are what we aim for with every product we sell. Take advantage of our materials to create beautiful skirts for every girl in your life.

After Making Your Headbands

girl-embellishmentsOnce you have some headbands made, take a great picture of them. Take a picture of each one by itself and then if possible, have someone model it. This way people will be able to see what it looks like on the head.

With your pictures, you can join a site like Etsy. This site is great for people who love to make handmade items and sell them to people who love to buy handmade items. It’s a match made in Heaven.

You can list your items by giving them interesting names and descriptions. You can also add the photos you took to your listing.

The price is up to you. Some people like to calculate it out by taking what they spent on materials, how much time it took them to make it, and then bump it up a little more. You can do whatever you think is fair.

You can then sit back and wait for people to buy them. As people buy each one, you should probably make one, so you don’t end up feeling rushed. If they are really great, you may just need some help from someone else to keep up with it all!

Expanding Your Business

If you want to bring more attention to your Etsy store, start marketing it on social media. Pinterest is great for headbands and other items that you can take photos of. Please share your creations – we would love to see them!

How to Make a Girl’s Tulle Tutu for Valentine’s Day

girl tutuValentine’s Day is almost a month away! If you’re thinking of getting pictures done of your little love, you might want to consider making a tulle tutu. They are so pretty and your little girl will feel like a ballerina in it.

Making your own tulle tutu is easy, inexpensive, and all you need is a half a day to make it. Let’s get started!

You will need:

  • Needle
  • Thread
  • 7-8 rolls of 6” wide tulle if you want a long ankle length tutu, or 3-4 rolls if you want a shorter one
  • ½” wide elastic
  • Embellishments (optional)

Instructions:

Step #1: The waistband is the first step in making the skirt. Cut the length you need to fit your little girl.

Tip: Since you are using elastic, you need to cut less than the size you measure around your girl’s waist. The best way to do this is by using a measuring tape. Get the size of her waist by wrapping the tape around her and then subtract 4 inches. This is how much you should cut.

Step #2: Sew the ends together tightly. You can use a sewing machine if you have one. Otherwise, sew it by hand.

Step #3: It’s time to cut the tulle! Cut strips of tulle. These strips should be double the length you want on her. Many people cut 22” strips of 6” wide tulle for a short tutu. The length will be 11 inches from the waist. If you want it longer, you can measure down to where you want it to fall from the waist of the wearer and then double that number.

Continue to cut strips until you have used 3-4 rolls for a short tutu and 7-8 rolls for a longer one.

Tip: The more strips you cut, the fuller the skirt will be on your girl.

Step #4: After you have all of your strips, take one strip and fold it in half. Place the loop inside of the elastic, and then take the bottoms of the tulle and pull it through the loop to make a knot on the elastic.

Continue to do this all the way around the elastic. As you’re going around the elastic, push the knots together. This will stretch the elastic, so you can add more tulle onto it. You should continue to do this until you can’t see any more elastic.

You’re done!

Well, you’re done unless you want to add a second layer.

Add a Second Tier to the Tutu

If you want a two tier tutu, you’ll need to cut strips from 2 to 3 more rolls of your 6” wide tulle. These should be shorter than the length of the skirt – about 8” to 10” shorter.

Take these strips you’ve just cut and tie them like you did with the first tier, but put them in between the first knots. This will create the second layer.

Add Embellishments

You can always add embellishments to your tutu such as:

  • Satin ribbon on the bottom and top
  • A bow
  • Sequins
  • Sparkles
  • Diamonds

The options are endless!

Cute, Fashionable Crochet Headbands for Babies and Girls

Crochet headbands are the latest trend for girls and babies. They are stylish, and you can put them easily in a diaper bag or purse for whenever you want to make your princess shine.

We have a large assortment of girls crochet headbands. You can find them on our crochet headbands page. With so many colors and styles to choose from for a low price, you can probably purchase a few of them to match up with your outfits.

brown-crochetHow to Wear Girls Headbands

Since headbands keep your hair out of your eyes, you can use them with your hair down in the back. Place the headband just above the hairline above the forehead.

You can also use it just for some flare to a hairstyle. Place it on top of the hair that is already styles. This usually gives babies and girls a little something extra to make their cuteness and beauty come out even more.

Crocheted headbands are great because they are soft and flexible. You never have to worry about them causing your baby or little girl to itch. You also don’t have to worry about them being too tight around the ears. They stretch to a comfortable position that keeps them where they need to be, no matter what they get themselves into throughout the day.

black-crochetWays to Use Them

Many people just use the crochet headbands for special occasions, but you can use them anytime. With so many different styles, you can choose ones that aren’t so fancy for days at school or at the park.

The best thing about crochet headbands is they can be worn any time of the year. You can wear them during the summer months with dresses or in the winter with sweaters.

We’ve even seen some people use our crochet headbands as pony holders. All they do is twist the headband in half and then place them together to wrap it around the pony. This can be such a great relief when you have your hair down, but really just want to put it up without an actual pony holder.

Another great idea is to use the crochet headband as a bun accent. Much like you set it up to make a ponytail, you can wrap the bun. This leaves the bun in place and gives it a nice crochet accent around it. It’s great on little girls as well as professional women.

Our crochet baby headbands are great for pictures! There’s nothing like getting first-year birthday pictures with your little doll in a crochet headband for babies. Of course, you can use them anytime for pictures such as Christmas, Easter, spring, fall, or whenever you want to have them done.

How to Wear Crocheted Ear Warmers

Women have been creative with crocheted ear warmers. They have incorporated them into hairstyles and made them a beautiful addition to their outfits.

  • Some women simply place the crocheted headwrap over the ears and use it much like a headband with their hair flowing flat in the back.
  • Other women will put their hair up in a high pony or bun. They place the ear warmers on the ears and right at the hairline. Again, this offers them a dual purpose for their headwrap as an ear warmer and headband.
  • Another idea is to place the headwrap right on the forehead, over the ears, and midway on the back of the head. Some women will keep their hair the way it is when they place the headwrap on it, while others will bring some of the hair up to make it puff a little on the top. This gives the hair a little volume rather than being flat.
  • Braiding the back of the head is great for active adults and children. The headwrap then comes in handy keeping shorter lengths of hair away from the face that aren’t secured in the braid. The headwrap can then cover the ears and forehead and comes down underneath the braid.
  • A fabulous look is curling your hair. You can place the headwrap at your hairline, over your ears, and then under your long flowing curls. You can then bring some of the curls over the wrap on each side, or keep them in the back.

Daughter-Mother or Sisters Matching Set

Many of our customers will purchase crocheted ear warmers for themselves and their children, so they can have a matching set. This can make the cutest selfies when you both wear them. Sisters can also wear matching ones with coordinating outfits.

With these crocheted ear warmers only $2.79, buy a few of them to match your entire winter wardrobe. They make great gifts too!
